Big changes are on the horizon for one of America’s most beloved lotteries, Mega Millions. Starting with the
draw on April 8, 2025, players can look forward to an enhanced experience with bigger jackpots, better odds, and
exciting new features.
Countdown to Mega Millions' Mega Makeover:
The odds of hitting the jackpot will improve significantly, thanks to a reduction in the
“Mega Ball” range from 25 to 24. This change boosts your chances of winning the grand prize to 1 in 290 million.
No more adding the Megaplier manually! From now on, every ticket will automatically
include a multiplier feature, which can multiply non-jackpot prizes by up to 10 times. That’s a potential $10
million prize for matching five white balls.
The lowest prize tier will now exceed the cost of a ticket. That means every win will
always put you ahead, even after factoring in the increased ticket price.
The odds of winning any prize are improving from 1 in 24 to 1 in 23.07. These changes make
Mega Millions even more rewarding, with more frequent wins across all prize tiers.
Mega Millions is more than doubling its starting jackpot from $20 million to $50 million, significantly besting Powerball’s $20 million minimum. However, Mega Millions will stick to its two-draw-per-week schedule compared to Powerball’s three.
To fund the upgrades that the game will be implementing, the cost of a ticket is
increasing to $5. When you order your ticket at TheLotter Minnesota, the new minimum Mega Millions entry cost will now
be $6.5.
The price increase is needed to fund these upgrades to the game’s format. While this might
seem like a steep hike, it’s worth noting that this is only the second price adjustment in the game’s 20+ year
history. The automatic inclusion of the Megaplier softens the impact of the price change by delivering greater
value in non-jackpot winnings.
Other than the change in price, there are no physical changes to the way you order tickets
at TheLotter Minnesota.
In terms of gameplay, you will receive all the benefits that the changes will bring,
including higher jackpots, faster rollovers, no break-even prizes, and much more.
Existing Mega Millions subscriptions will remain active until the changeover date. After
that, they will be canceled. Subscriptions can be manually reinstated under the new game conditions, which will
be available at TheLotter Minnesota starting on the day the changes take effect.
Existing Multi-Draw packages will remain valid until the changeover date. Any unused draws
in a package scheduled after the changeover will be cancelled and refunded. Multi-Draw packages for the new game
format will be available starting on the day the changes are implemented.
With faster-growing jackpots and higher starting amounts, Mega Millions is set to break
even more records. Since its last revamp in 2017, over 1,200 players have become millionaires—an average of
three every week. Expect this number to climb with the new changes.
